InnovatorsRace50 - Top 10 Finalists - Consumers & Well-Being [Part 3 of 5]

Capgemini's InnovatorsRace50 celebrates the life and times of Capgemini Group founder Serge Kampf, the values that embody the Group and the spirit of innovation. Across five themes (GovTech & Social Enterprises, FinTech & Mobility, Consumers & Well-Being, Digital Processes & Transformation, Data & Security), 50 startups were shortlisted to receive the Serge Kampf entrepreneurship and innovation award: equity-free funding of $50,000.

The Top 10 businesses have been selected, and in this third part of a five-part series, we'll take a look at the customer experience aspects of the two businesses in the Consumer & Well-Being category.

Consumers & Well-Being

Kinematics GmbH (Germany)

Kinematics GmbH is a company that develops, manufactures and distributes Tinkerbots, a robotic building kit that allows children to build their own robot, remotely control it & program it.

Kinematics believe that children are the innovators of tomorrow, and Tinkerbots allows children age 6+ to take their first steps into the world of robotics, mechanics and sensor technology. The robotic building kits combine screen time with physical play.

Tinkerbots is remotely controllable with a mobile device and programmable via computer. Wireless motion modules enable the user to create stable models and also guarantee integrated data and power transmission. With Tinkerbots, it’s even possible to record and replay motions with only one click. Tinkerbots also adapts to children’s needs as they are growing up. While recording motions at a young age, children can also learn coding using a programming language like Google Blockly or Arduino.

The customer experience angle: Areas of technology like coding and robotics can seem like a distant concept to many, and for those who want to learn more about these areas it can often seem like a complex and challenging area to discover. Thick textbooks, advanced online coding courses can seem especially duanting experiences, blocking entry for many people. This barrier to entry is removed, providing not only adults but children with the opportunity to understand key elements of programming and robotics whilst combining it with play and imagination. Learnings from this experience can then be transferred to other technology areas.

Complex Disease Detector/Hippogriff AB (Sweden)

Complex Disease Detector is an award-winning innovation to detect heart disease at a significantly earlier stage, even if the individual doesn't have any symptoms.

Heart disease is the number one killer of humans worldwide - a problem which the Complex Disease Detector aims to solve. Complex Disease Detector is an accurate, non-invasive & inexpensive tool for early detection of Heart Disease. By using usual medical data including ECG & demographic data & applying our unique artificial intelligence technology, Complex Disease Detector offers a great decision support tool to doctors for early diagnosis. Patients may be helped to discover if they have a heart disease, even if they have no symptoms.

The solution is based on data mining & machine learning which enables it to get smarter over time. This means the more patients use it, the more accurate it becomes.

The customer experience angle: Data is becoming more and more prolific in our daily lives. Fitness trackers, smart toothbrushes, sleep monitors and nutrition apps all provide people with more information about how the lifestyle choices they make are affecting their health in the long-term. This has typically been consumer-focused, as a way of highlighting these areas to customers rather than being used for medical diagnosis. As access to data becomes easier and more connected between devices, health professionals, as well as consumers, will be able to make better use of this data for their relevant needs.

The finals

The Top 10 finalists will now go through the mentorship phase, culminating in the Grand Finale at VivaTech, Paris in June 2017 where five winners will be announced - one from each theme.
